Uplifting the Quality of the Lives of Elderly People Program

CEDAR (Concern for Environmental Development And Research) has been started a program from July, 2018 in Bushnandi Union of Araihazar Upazilla under Narayanganj district for elder community with the financial and technical assistance of Palli Karma- Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). The title of the program is ‘Uplifting the Quality of the Lives of Elderly People Program’. The following activities are being implemented under the program. • Establishing social centers for the elderly people in Bishnandi Union; • Offering old age allowances & support assistive materials (walking sticks, commodes, blanket warm cloths, wheel chairs, umbrellas etc); • Provision of Special Savings and Pension Fund; • Recognizing the contribution for the society made by the elderly persons; • Awarding the best children for looking after their parents; • Providing appropriate credit and IGAs-based training facilities to the poor elderly people; • Offering physiotherapy services & geriatric nursing to the elderly by organizing training for the Physiotherapy Aide; • Rehabilitation of poor and distress elderly in community. The Specific activities performed of the Prabin program are to- (1) Committee formation, training and monthly meeting; (2) To establish elderly social centre; (3) Ensuring old age allowance; (4) Special assistance for elderly people; (5) Assistance to cover funeral expenditure; (6) Awarding elderly people; (7) IGA training and employment for elderly people; (8) Physiotherapy and geriatric care training; (9) Health and care facilities; (10) Supports for helpless & shelter less elder; (11) Arrange elderly fair.
